State Department of Agriculture warns of wide-ranging recall

West Virginia Commissioner of Agriculture Walt Helmick is warning consumers of a recall on a wide variety of refrigerated, ready-to-eat salad products manufactured by Reser’s Fine Foods of Beaverton, Ore.
“These products were distributed nationwide and could make people sick if they eat them,” said Commissioner Helmick. “Consumers should throw away affected products, or return them to the store where they bought them.”
Although there have been no confirmed illnesses associated with these products, Reser’s expanded an existing recall Saturday on concerns products from its Topeka, Kansas facility might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria is an organism which can cause serious and sometime fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and individuals with weakened immune systems. Healthy people may suffer only short term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant woman.
The product is sold under a variety of brand labels including 7-11, Aldi, Safeway, Sav-a-lot, Sysco, Walmart and Yoder, among others. The packages will be marked with a Use-by or Best-By date, followed by a plant identifier code of 20.
For a full listing of recalled products, visit www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm372345.htm?source=govdelivery&utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery
For more information please contact Reser’s Fine Foods Consumer Hotline 1-888-257-7913 (8 a.m.- 10 p.m. EST) or visit www.fda.gov.
