Our town has had a barber since the 1920s, and all have been in the same building located at 142A Main Street.  Recently, a new barber took over after Otto Brown retired. Josh Nine is the new barber and he has been opened since September 2014. Josh is originally from Ohio, but he moved to Clay when he started high school and he quickly made Clay County his home. He is a graduate of Clay County High School. When Josh graduated high school he went to work on the pipeline which took him out of town a lot. Josh is married and has two daughters and he hated to be away from his family all the time. “I decided to go to barber school so I could be home with my family. I worked on the pipeline for several years. After a layoff I got to thinking ‘What can I do to stay with my family?”  Barbering has always been an interest to Josh and people will always need a haircut. Josh attended and graduated from Charleston School of Beauty Culture and Barbering out of Charleston WV and he decided to open his own barbershop instead of going to work for someone else.

Barbering is a lost tradition and at Nine’s Barber Shop tradition matters, a place where guys can be guys. Dads can come with their kids and have that special father son bonding time. Josh said “I give my all when it comes to cutting hair but in the end it’s not all about the haircut, I’ve come to realize it’s the conversations and stories and getting to know the patrons of the barber shop. I don’t just cut hair. I have brought back the straight razor shave and neck and ear shaves with every haircut.”

At Nine’s Barber Shop, you can come and grab a cup of coffee and sit down and enjoy talking to friends you haven’t seen in a long time while you wait for a hair cut or a face shave. Nine’s Barber Shop is open Tuesdays 10:00AM – 7:00PM; Wednesdays 10:00AM – 5:00pm, Thursdays and Fridays 10:00 – 6:00PM and Saturdays 8:00AM – 1:00PM. Hair cuts are $10, Face shaves are $10, both a hair cut and a face shave is $18. If you have questions you can call Josh at (304) 553-5474.
