Ely Osborne

Congratulations to Ely Osborne for being selected as one of two students from the state of West Virginia to represent our state in the United States Senate Youth Program as a delegate in Washington D.C.

The United States Senate Youth Program, established in 1962 by U.S. Senate Resolution, is a unique educational experience for outstanding high school students interested in pursuing careers in public service.

Osborne is the first student from Clay County High School to win this award in well over 20 years. He will spend a week in Washington D.C. in March of 2018, experiencing the national government in action. Student delegates will hear major policy addresses by senators, cabinet members, officials from the Departments of State and Defense and directors of other federal agencies, as well as participate in meetings with President Trump and a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition, Osborne will also be awarded a $10,000 college scholarship for undergraduate studies.

He is the son of John and Kari Osborne of Wallback, West Virginia, and plans to attend Fairmont State College, studying political science for his bachelor’s degree and plans to pursue a career in law.
