Holcomb Celebrates 50 Years with the Clay County Board of Education

Mary Holcomb completed 50 years of service this week for the Clay County Board of Education. During her career, Ms. Holcomb served as secretary at both schools and central office in Clay County. In 1972 Mary became secretary at Clay County Middle School. She then transferred to the Clay County Board of Education Central Office as the secretary for the Director of Special Education. In 1989 Mrs. Holcomb transferred to the position of secretary at Clay County High School where she served for 10 years. In 1999 Mary transferred to Clay County Board of Education as Secretary l to the Superintendent of Clay County Schools. Mary served from 1999 through 2022 as Secretary l to the Superintendent of Clay County Schools.

Mary is a lifelong resident of Clay County. She was born to Roy and Helen Markle and has four siblings: Jimmy Markle, Nancy Dorsey, Vicky Smith and Debra Markle. She has many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews. Mary has been married to her husband Jimmie for over 50 years. They reside in Maysel. She is mother to Anissa Hamrick (Geoff) and Jamela Krajeski (Shawn) both also of Maysel. She has four grandsons: Mason Hamrick (Rebecca), Grayson Hamrick (Jessy), Ian Smith and Grant Krajeski. She has five great grandchildren: Charlotte Hamrick, Nate Hamrick, Rowan Hamrick, Miles Hamrick and Maggie Hamrick. Mary has two grand pups: Billy and Ellie. She enjoys spending her free time with family, shopping at antique malls, garage sales and thrift stores.
