County commission declares September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

The Clay County Commission held their bimonthly meeting on Wednesday, September 13, 2017.

Marvin Murphy, District 1 engineer was in attendance to talk about the Road Bond Referendum. A motion to approve the minutes from the previous meeting was approved. A motion to approve the bills and purchase orders as presented was approved. A motion to approve the erroneous assessments as presented by the Assessor was approved. A motion to confirm probating the last will and testament of John Fredrick Woofter, deceased and the appointment of John Randolph Osborne, Executor, was approved. A motion to approve the appointment of Mary Frances Hanshaw, Administratrix of the estate of Anne Mae DeMoss, deceased, was approved. a motion to approve the appointment of Tressie White, Administratrix of the estate of Ray Williams, deceased, was approved. A motion to approve the request of waiver of final settlement for the estates of Olive Virginia Smith Nicholas and Lawrence Denver Truman, deceased was approved.

A motion to declare September 2017 as “Childhood Cancer Awareness Month” and wish to honor and support WVKCC & #TEAMCARSON by “Going Gold” for the month of September was approved. A motion moving to accept the resignation of Lisa Truman as dispatcher for the Clay E911 Communications Center effective August 19, 2017, was approved. A motion to reappoint Chris Reed as a member of the Clay County Business Development Authority for a term expiring September 10, 2020 was approved. A motion to reappoint Joshua Shamblin as member of the Clay County Business Development Authority for a term expiring September 24, 2020 was approved. A motion to reappoint David Grigsby as a member of the Clay Roane Public Service District for a term expiring September 1, 2023 was approved. A motion to reappoint Brian Holcomb as a member of the Clay Roane Public Service District for a term expiring September 1, 2023 was approved. A motion to approve the request from the Clay County Business development Authority to remove Jena Vance as a board member due to non-attendance, was approved.

A motion to appoint the following as members of the Clay County Broadband Committee was approved, pending their acceptance: Jerry Linkinoggor, Mitch DeBoard, Joe Paxton, Terri Martin, Connie Lepardous, Angela Brown, Barry McCune, and John Boyce. A motion to rescind an order authorizing the County Clerk to perform the duties of the State Auditor for delinquent land sales by sheriff, was approved. All real properties subsequently purchased at the delinquent land sales by the sheriff that has not been redeemed will be transferred the state auditor prior to October 1, 2017. A motion to increase the employees share for health insurance coverage as commission pick up half of the price and the employee pays half of the price was approved.
