The Clay County Board of Education met at H.E. White Elementary School on Monday, Feb. 27. The agenda was approved, as well as the minutes from the previous meeting, to begin with the action items.

The action items proceeded with the approval of employment for Juanita Nicholas as custodian for evening shift at Clay County High School. A motion for the transfer of Margie Wyant from an autism aide at Lizemore Elementary School to an  autism mentor classroom aide at Clay County High School  was approved. The employment of Joan Haynie as assistant superintendent of Clay County Schools was approved. Haynie will be the first female assistant superintendent of Clay County. The employment of Teddy Dawson as substitute bus operator, pending certification and drug testing, was approved. The employment of Jerry Linkinoggor, Larry Gillespie and James (Brooks) Legg as substitute teachers, was approved.

The H.E. White LSIC spoke on behalf of the school to thank the board for their continued support. The new septic system is up and running and the playground has been completed from the flood damage. Melanie Dolin, the LSIC representative, asked the board for an addition on to the end of the school. Next year, there will not be enough space for Title 1 and special education, she said. LSIC also requested for their storage building to be completed and the approval of the fifth-grade trip for the end of year, which will come back as an action item at a future meeting.
