Family REading Week graphicThe West Virginia Library Commission, provider of state library information and services, is pleased to announce Family Reading Week: November 15-21.
During this week, community libraries encourage parents to read aloud to their children. As studies have shown, reading to your child not only stimulates speech and language development, but also supports self-discipline and concentration. Karen Goff, WVLC Executive Secretary states, “Reading to your child promotes academic success by developing comprehension and logical thinking.”
On Read to Me Day, Thursday, November 19, schools and libraries will be hosting their own activities to promote reading. Of course, the best way to promote reading is to obtain a library card. If you don’t have one, sign up for a library card and make it part of your child’s routine to stop in and check out new books. It fosters excitement while creating a foundation for educational success!
To learn more on how to promote family reading, contact your local library.
