October’s town council meeting included several items for discussion. After the meeting minutes from September meeting was read and looked over by town council members, the minutes were amended to include that Council Member Joyce was not in attendance at the September meeting. The minutes were then approved and the meeting proceeded.
Discussion was held regarding the request by CAEZ for help with vines spreading from a neighboring house onto their property and the apartments on Carr Street in Clay. A letter was sent by CAEZ to the home owners, but there has been no action on clearing the vines so far.
The jail workers will be back in town working again on October 24th. Council members will discuss their assistance with maintaining the vines.
CAEZ requested an adjustment on their water bill. They (CAEZ) say they have a leak. CAEZ has already received am adjustment on their bill for the campground/lodge. Bill holders are only allowed adjustments once a year. Records show that CAEZ’s bill has been high for three consecutive months. The request for an adjustment was denied.
Council members began discussing the issue with the fire hydrants in town. A few weeks back, a Family Dollar delivery truck hit the fire hydrant next to the Family Dollar store and damaged it. Family Dollar has paid for a new fire hydrant and the labor to replace it. The replacement for the fire hydrant is on the work list to be fixed and should be taken care of soon. There was also discussion about a fire hydrant that was damaged on one of the back streets in town and the issue of who would be responsible for paying to have it fixed. Mayor Beverly Whaling talked with the Clay resident and an agreement was to pay for a new hydrant was reached. There are several other hydrants in town that need to be repaired or replaced. Those hydrants will be repaired or replaced as monies are available to do so.
The Town Council announced that Trick or Treat will be on Friday, October 30th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
Town council members then proceeded into executive session to discuss budget cuts. The next meeting will be the first Tuesday in November.
