Roger Hanshaw is no stranger to Clay County.

A Clay County High School graduate and  Speaker of the House, Mr. Hanshaw stays active in the community and finds ways to bring positivity to the town. He accompanied Senator Capito in September to the high school to donate softball equipment to the girls softball team. Mr. Hanshaw also accompanied WVU President Gordon Gee to visit CCHS.

President Gee was there to talk with students about options for higher education, including colleges like WVU.  He met with juniors and seniors to talk to them about the college admissions process, financial aid, extracurricular activities on campus, and the academic programs available at WVU.  The students had the opportunity to have their questions answered and get individual follow-up from admissions officers at WVU.

Mr. Hanshaw also offered a complimentary lunch for Clay Countians on Friday at the Business Development office.  He was there with the WV Chamber of Commerce, the WV Business and Industry County, and WV Coal Association, and the leaders of the largest business associations in the state to talk about the future of our economy in the state and region. Mr. Hanshaw treated everyone in attendance to Subway subs and discussed the economic growth available to Clay County.

In his most recently scheduled visit to Clay County he had some big news and immediately called Mrs. Crystal Gibson, CCHS Principal, to ask if she would be ok with the Ambassador visiting Clay High.  Mrs. Gibson, along with Mr. Allen Tanner, Mr. Morris, and school employees, presented Clay County High School at its very best. So many people put in a lot of work over the past few weeks to make this day special, and all was disappointed when the visit was cancelled due to the Ambassador’s plane being delayed because of rain. The entire staff at CCHS has done an amazing job and it is greatly appreciated.
