The full Commission was present for the second regular monthly County Commission meeting on April 27. President Joyce Johnson, Commissioner David Schoolcraft, and Commissioner Duane Legg, as well as County Clerk Shelia Stone were present in person.
The agenda has been unusually light these past few sessions, and this meeting was no exception. It was largely routine county business: minutes from the previous meeting, bills, purchases, budget revisions, erroneous assessments as presented by the Assessor, fiduciary appointments as presented by the County Clerk, including affidavit and waiver of final settlements for estates. The commission also set a new hearing dater for the estate of Joyce Gibson due a scheduling conflict with one of the attorneys to Jun. 22 at 10 a.m.
While not actually presenting, Terry Martin gave a report that the application for three new fire engines, one for each of the county’s volunteer fire departments was submitted by the deadline. But, he notes, that all that depends upon final passage of the federal budget and it could be sometime before this materializes.
It was noted that the Clay County Cleanup was very successful with many residents, county employees and high school students participating. Commissioner David Schoolcraft said that the Clay County Cleanup event across from Pierson’s Lumber two days later might have been the best ever. They had a record amount of trash, metal, appliances and tires collected on that Saturday.
Following the meeting, Donna Salisbury, director of the Family Center across the street from the courthouse and a current candidate for the Clay County Commission, announced the opening of the pickleball and basketball courts in Two Run, next to the BDA quarters at the site of the old DOH.
The next Commission meeting will be on May 11, 2026 at 9 a.m.
