GSC Maswcot Marc Jones_Pioneer13 Marc Jones, a senior from Gassaway (Braxton County), West Virginia, has been named the Glenville State College Pioneer Mascot for the 2013-2014 school year.
Jones said, “I’m really looking forward to bringing back traditions and starting new ones. I can’t wait to rally the students together to get loud and proud. I am very motivated and plan on doing pushups for each point scored. We’re also going to be working with ROTC and the marching band to really get the crowd going.”
Jones has held several leadership roles with student organizations during his time at Glenville State College. He is the Student Government Association Vice President, Sigma Omega Beta President, Greek Council President, and GSC’s ROTC unit Executive Officer. Jones served in the military for six years and is an Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran. Additionally, he has been active in GSC’s Student Veterans Association, collegiate Relay for Life, and the Jazz Band and Woodwind Ensemble.
As the GSC Pioneer, Jones will attend GSC football and basketball games, tournaments, and other school events. The Pioneer is charged with working with GSC students, faculty, and staff to positively promote and support the college. The official uniform of the GSC Pioneer mascot is a set of buckskins, a coonskin hat, and a musket.
“Marc is a genuine pioneer. His leadership on campus already speaks for itself. I’m very proud to have him represent GSC for the 2013-14 year,” said Dean of Student Life Duane Chapman.
“I will give back to GSC because it has given me so much. This is my family and I want to share it with everybody,” added Jones.
Jones is the son of Larry and Melissa Jones of Gassaway, West Virginia.
