Mustang defense dictates game

Mustang defense dug in and held.

Thursday night proved to be the day of redemption for the Mustangs of Clay Middle.  The taste of losing brings a bitter taste to the mouth pieces and losing was not an option.  Under threatening skies, the Braxton Knights came in with confidence and a twenty-two game winning streak, but the no nonsense Mustang defense crushed their hopes of that winning streak continuing.  Minus one run that got away from them, the Mustang defense shut the Knights down.  Passing the ball was clearly impossible. The defensive line, combined with the speed of the linebackers and the back field, created a wall between them and the goal line after that.  The Mustangs had a fire lit under them from somewhere and had no desire to lose this game in front of the hometown fans.  With 6’s on the scoreboard at the beginning of the third quarter, it was tied up. Late in the third quarter, however, number 10 of the Mustangs broke loose from the pack and, after a long run, danced in the end zone to add six more nails to Braxton’s coffin.  That was to be the end of the scoring with both defenses digging fox holes and holding their ground.  When the battering stopped, the Mustangs were on top with their first win of the season by the score of 12-6.  The Mustangs will get ready this week to bring their best air show and ground and pound to the field of Richwood where they will be in a match against the tough Lumberjacks.  If you get the opportunity, get out and watch a good football team go head to head with some tough competition.
