Pierson orchestrated his last meeting as commissioner on Monday

December 22 was the last county commission meeting for the year 2014, as well as the last meeting for Commissioner Mike Pierson. To accommodate a holiday schedule, the meeting time was changed to address the brief agenda. Beginning with the approval of minutes, bills and purchase orders, the group quickly moved on to appoint several people to a variety of positions. Michael Taylor was appointed to the Clay-Roane PSD, Randy Holcomb was appointed to the Clay County Deputy Sheriff’s Civil Service Board and Regina Weber was hired as a part time EMT. An opening for a board member position with the Clay County Public Service District will remain open until the next county commission meeting in January. After completing over two decades of service to the citizens of Clay County, Jeff Rider was presented his service weapon.

After six years of serving the county, Monday’s meeting was the last for Commissioner Mike Pierson. As a way of saying farewell, Pierson gave a touching speech to those in attendance. “I am glad I got to accomplish something for the county during my tenure. I have learned a lot and I have enjoyed myself.” said Pierson. “Everything works out for a reason and I am thankful for everything God has done. I wish Greg the best.” Commissioners Linkinoggor and Tucker spoke highly of Pierson’s accomplishments and wished him the best in his future endeavors.

The next county commission meeting will be held on January 14 with new commissioner Greg Fitzwater joining the existing pair.
