Clay County High School Teacher Robert Morris took four students to Oklahoma City this week to compete in the 63rd Annual National Land and Range Judging Competition.
The event was held from April 29th to May 1st. Robert Morris, Elijah Van Gelder, Jessica Armes, Michael Gray, Nathaniel Stephenson and WVU Extension Office representative Michael Shamblin flew to Oklahoma last Sunday. They practiced all week and competed on Thursday morning. At 6 p.m. on May 1st an awards ceremony was held at the Biltmore Hotel.
CCHS Land Judging Team took 3rd place in the nation and Michael Gray took 4th Individual and Jessica Armes took 8th Individual. The team competed with 135 teams from across the United States. Two other West Virginia teams finished in the top ten.
