Friday night was football homecoming night as the Panthers hosted the Rebels of Tolsia. The Rebels were screaming their rebel yells before the game started but soon learned their screams weren’t enough to scare a kitten. The Panthers and the Rebels both sported a 3-3 record coming into the game, and there had to be a loser. The Panthers went down the middle, ran the perimeter, passed, caught, blocked, tackled and defended and scored 14 points by halftime, with defense holding Tolsia to no score. The Rebels had a good run game, but the Panthers defense got the stops when they needed them.
The game was pretty much like a wagon wheel over a marshmallow. Simply put, the Panther football team is becoming a force to be reckoned with.
After a win against Logan, the Panthers’ momentum going into this game was full on football. The Rebels simply couldn’t get the ball anywhere with the Panther defense digging deep and stopping any advance. Once the Rebels threw in the towel, the final cemented at Panthers 34, Rebels 12.
In the game, Cooper Collins added to his growing stats throwing 12-22 for 327 yards while throwing three TDs. Brody Scarbro once again took the pig through no man’s land with 15 run attempts going 65 yards. On the receiving end of the ball, Joel Elliott had five catches for 110 yards and one TD plus a TD run on defense after an interception. Coming up big with some catch and run plays was Kohan Ramsey who caught six passes for 184 yards and one TD. Ghatlon Stanton had one catch for 28 yards and a TD. On defense it was Brody Scarbro and Nick Williams who each had 10 solo tackles with Scarbro adding eight assists. This was another good win for the Panthers as they moved to 4-3. Their season now gets into a stretch of games that SHOULD be easy wins for the Panthers. However, one never knows what team will show up on the field against the Panthers on any night, so easy wins are simply speculation. The Panthers will take their show on the road to Ravenswood this Friday night and will look to go 5-3. The last game of regular season will be against Braxton on Nov. 6. Go Panthers!
Friday night was not all about football – it was homecoming, after all, and the red carpet was rolled out on the turf for CCHS royalty. It was a night for the crowning of a new football homecoming queen. The CCHS band and cheerleaders lined up in formation to welcome the new queen to the field to the cheering of her fans. Jayda Stricker was crowned as the 2026 Football Homecoming Queen and glided across the field with the confidence and poise of royalty to accept her crown as CCHS principal Angela Nichols placed it on her head. Stricker will no doubt be a queen that represents her school well. Jayda’s escort was Luke Stewart, and her crown bearer was Lainey Samples, daughter of Mike and Hollie Samples. Lainey’s escort was Parker Grose, son of Alex and Caitlyn Grose.
Congratulations to Queen Stricker and her court. Freshman Princess Addison Jones was escorted by Bryson Duty. Sophomore Princess Hannah Gandee was escorted by Collin Elliott. Junior Princess Bethany Ann Hersman was escorted by Sebastian Sigman. Senior Princess Camryn Williams was escorted by Adrian Davison. They all represented CCHS and their respective classes well. Once again, congratulations to the queen and her court.
