The CCMS boys’ baseball team had one game cancelled against Ravenswood early in the week but got to play a bat buster against Braxton. The Mustangs, now 3-2 on the season, have set the diamond on fire with some excellent technical / physical baseball. Simply put, this is one of the best teams to hit the field for the Mustangs. The talent on the team would lend itself to believe that this could be the year they bring home the gold, but there is a lot of baseball yet to play.
With Braxton, it was a good game for the Mustangs as they met little resistance towards the win. Both teams looked as though talent wouldn’t be a problem and neither would be the action. The Mustangs sent ace pitcher, and I do mean ace pitcher, Palmer Adkins to the mound to try and put down any offense Braxton might muster. Adkins went to work with some English that didn’t come from a cracker box. Those pitches kept the Knight players guessing and striking. By the time he was done, he set down five batters in three innings while allowing no hits and no runs.
The Mustangs’ bats had no problem with the Knight pitcher as they scored 10 runs in the first inning that put shackles on any Knight hope for a win. The Knights were up in the 2 nd inning, but the shellacking the Mustangs gave them in the 1 st gave them a bitter taste in the mouth. They couldn’t get any runs off of Adkins as Mustang defense stepped up their game. The final five nails were driven into the coffin when the Mustangs scored five runs in the bottom of the 3 rd inning ending the game. With the official white towel thrown in, the game ended with the Mustangs short gaming the Knight 15-0. Holden Winebrenner had the heavy bat for the Mustangs knocking in four RBIs on three hits.
The Mustangs will once again be at home on April 7 th against Calhoun and away at Ravenswood on April 8, these games should be some good bat busters. Go Mustangs!!
