The Lady Panther softball team ended their season last week in a double elimination sectional tournament. They were pitted against the Lady Raiders of Roane County, and one could see from the start it would be a long evening for the Lady Panthers.
Kyla Smith pitched some good innings at the beginning, but it didn’t last; the Lady Raiders’ sticks got hot and they scored five runs by the fourth inning. The Lady Panthers just couldn’t get their game on track, and their bats were silenced by the pitching of the Lady Raiders. Errors in the field caused some of the game’s decay, but there were moments in the field that the Lady Panthers shined. However, it wasn’t bright enough, and they lost their first game 1-9.
Not out of the tournament yet, the Lady Panthers had t
o go head to head with their rivals, the Lady Eagles of Braxton. The last meetings between the two teams in regular season were close games. This time, the Lady Panthers were able to put five points on the board, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Eagles toppled them 5-13.
The Lady Panthers went 17-12 this year which isn’t too bad considering all the delays and cancellations. Alas, their season has ended, and they now look to next year. There’s no doubt they will be stronger, and perhaps next year will hold a different result. Congratulations to the Lady Panthers on a good season.
