Trevor Armes still undefeated in the 400 meter

The CCHS track team travelled to Gilmer County Friday evening to compete in the LKC Championship where they, without a doubt, ran into the toughest competition they will face this year.

Sixteen teams from their region competed, including the best Single A teams in the state. Most of the runners and field event athletes were ranked in the standings among some of the best individual competitors. Trevor Armes, who has reached the level of the best of the best, would have his hands full.  He would be running against the only other undefeated 400 meter sprinter in the state, Zack Long, of St Mary’s High School. Armes was the only runner at this point this year to run the 400 in under 50 seconds. When they got to the final 100 meters they were neck and neck, but in the final 50 meters, Armes turned on the after burners and run the fastest time in the state this year a 49.72.  He passed his previous mark of 49.92.

It was a great display of what can be accomplished with the right amount of focus and determination. Armes is ranked no. 1 again. As I said, it was a tough meet, and as a team, the boys were seventh, and the girls didn’t make it into the top 10. Placing individually in the points were Trevor Armes, second in the 100 meter, third in the 200 meter and first in the 400 meter; and Logan Nottingham, eighth in the 300 meter hurdles.  The 4×200 boys’ relay team was sixth overall. The boys’ 4×100 meter shuttle hurdle team placed sixth.

The 4×400 relay team was fourth. The Panthers will be competing in the Region II competition on Thursday, May 11, and start time is 2 p.m. Here will determine who goes to the state level track competition. Good luck CCHS Panthers.
