than 6,500 students attended the 2014 National Technology Student Association (TSA) Conference at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland June 27 – July 1. Middle and high school student members competed in more than 60 competitive events based on principles and concepts learned through projects during the school year in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects. The conference celebrated the contributions of advancing technology in our society with the theme “The Spirit of Innovation.”
The Clay County Middle School TSA team traveled to Washington, D.C. and made their presence known at the national competition level. Led by their advisors, Mr. Jared Fitzwater and Leslie Goe, 20 students, two advisors, and chaperones boarded the charter bus and headed toward victory. Each of the students worked many hours perfecting their projects. Students had to place first in their event at the state level to earn the honor of representing West Virginia at the national conference. Their hard work and dedication paid off. Clay Middle captured two top 10 finalist victories. This means nine of 20 students finalized and made it onto the stage at the national level. This is an extraordinary feat for these students. Our outstanding Mustangs made us very proud! Winners were as follows:
Chapter Team 4th Place – Ely Osborne, James Carroll, Virginia Haverty, Hunter Jones, Laikyn Samples, and Tailyn Varney
System Control Technology 7th Place – James Carroll, Ely Osborne, and Darren Ray
Mr. Fitzwater and Mrs. Goe are very proud of these students for not only bringing home victory, but for their success in their behavior too. These students are carrying on a strong tradition set by TSA students over the past decade. Mr. Fitzwater would also like to thank Jessica Ramsey, Beth Cercone, and Jim Cercone for their time and hard work helping students with projects and serving as chaperones. This success would not be possible without the support of the administration and the Clay County Board of Education. We thank you! If you see any of these outstanding students, congratulate them!TSA.IMG_1194[1]TSA.IMG_1152[1]
