William “Bill” Dunn of Herold Road, Sutton, age 95, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on October 18, 2017.

Bill was born June 11, 1922, and was the son of the late Lewis Dunn and Ida B. Jackson Dunn.

He had been a member of the Long Run Baptist Church since 1942 and a Deacon for close to 70 years. He loved the church, and it was the main focus in his life. He has said he had good times, hard times, happy times and sad times, but his God was always there with strength and comfort to lead him to victory.

Bill and his late wife, Bernice, along with their friends, Paul and Wilma Davis, had a gospel quartet called “Country Faith” that sang for years in many different churches in the area.

He still lived on the farm that he was born and raised. He loved this farm which has been in his family for over one hundred years. He knew where every tree, rock and hollow was. He loved farming, and he loved cattle, sheep, and horses. He often said he would rather work a good team of horses than anything he had ever done. He raised registered Hereford cattle for about 20 years and was an active member of the Registered Hereford Cattle Association.

Along with farming, he also spent 25 years in the hardware business, where he received a Professional Hardwareman Degree from the National Retail Hardware Association. While working there, he made many friends. Their friendship was his prized possession.

Bill was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 60 years, Bernice Dent Dunn; his parents, Lewis and Ida Dunn; sisters, Ocie Dunn Tinney, Blanch Dunn, Genevieve Dunn Morrison, Gladys Dunn Mace, Lucille Dunn, and brothers, Lloyd, Percy, Harvey, Gordon and Glen Dunn.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Judy Dunn Johnson (Tom); granddaughters, Lynnette Bechtel (Kevin) and Julie Williams (Doug); great-grandchildren, Blaine Morton (Nicole), Deidre White (Chase), Joshua Hayden (Amber) and Brandon Hayden; and great great-granddaughter, Ryleigh Hayden. Also, a special neighbor friend, Natasha Hoffman Cutlip, who brought fun, love and sunshine into his life as he watched her grow up. He leaves behind a lot of nieces, nephews and cousins, and a host of friends and neighbors that he would not want left out.

Funeral services were held 3 p.m., Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Long Run Baptist Church, Canfield, WV with Rev. Robey Godfrey officiating. Burial followed at Dunn Cemetery, Canfield. Friends called after 1:30 p.m., Sunday at the church.

Bill will be deeply and sadly missed by his family and friends. Our memories will give us comfort, and he will be in our hearts forever.

Greene-Robertson Funeral Home was honored to serve the Dunn family. Online condolences may be sent to: greene-robertsonfuneralhome.com.
