Remember the old wooden desks that have been at CCHS since it was opened in 1971? They have now been replaced with “new” chairs, donated from Putnam and Tyler Counties! These two counties have recently consolidated schools and had excess furniture from the moves. Clay County was able to partner with the counties and gain over 300 chairs to replace the 43 year old ones used at the high school.
Staff and students organized a system to distribute the chairs that were brought in on Penske rental trucks. It is estimated that the chairs alone would cost $62,000 if purchased new. In addition to the chairs, teacher desks, tables, and 16 white boards were also secured in the partnership.
CCHS has also received a total transformation in lighting this summer as part of the energy savings plan through the district. New water closets have also been installed throughout the building.
These updates and renovations have created a buzz for the new school year. Staff and students will be returning to a “new” school! Thank you for all those who made these updates possible. Your work is much appreciated!
