The July 7th bi-monthly board of education meeting was held at the board office on Monday evening. The meeting as always, began with a word of prayer given by RB Legg. There were two separate meetings, the first was held with the purpose of swearing in new board member Cheryl White whom has replaced Beth Cercone. Nominations were also taken for the President, Vice President, and RESA III Representative; RB Legg will remain President, Dave Mullins will be Vice President and also our RESA III Representative. The second business meeting immediately followed. The previous meeting minutes were approved and funds were transferred bills paid and the treasurer report read. The board members then went into executive session before continuing with the regular business meeting agenda. Danny Brown, the Assistant Superintendent, submitted a heartfelt letter of retirement and resignation effect June 30, 2014. Mike Mullins was honored to be nominated to follow in Mr. Brown’s foot steps as the next Assistant Superintendent of Clay County Schools.
The changing of a few teaching positions took place. Rodney Aleshire was approved for retirement and resignation as a H.E. White Elementary teacher to a substitute teacher for the 2014-2015 school years. Greg Knopp resigned as Athletic Director at Clay High effective June 18, 2014. Mary Ramsey was hired as the replacement Athletic Director. Robert Morris will be the new Director of Career and Technical Education/Assistant Principal at Clay High School. Jeff Krauklis was approved as a 3rd grade teacher at the Clay Elementary .Cory Stricker was approved as a Science/Biology/Chemistry teacher at the High School. Grithel Holcomb and Lorna Truman were approved as Multicategorical teachers for the Extended Year Program at Clay Elementary. Samantha Holcomb moved from the preferred recall list to Pre-School teacher at Big Otter Elementary School, pending certification. Gail Simons was approved as the Autism Mentor Aide for the extended school year. Renee Moore was approved as bus operator for bus #47. Also hired were Pamela Haynes as a sub cook and Margie Taylor as sub custodian were approved as a result of reduction in force. Jonathan Rogers and Jimmy Simmons were approved as summer substitute bus operators. Kenny Smith was approved as a night shift custodian at Clay High. Kathy Legg has transferred to a Cook III at the High School. Leslie Osburn is the now the Guidance Counselor at the Clay High School. Mitch Deboard is now the bus driver for bus # 54.
The FFA students and chaperones were approved to attend the WV State FFA Convention in Ripley. Bus drivers will be getting new uniforms for the school up coming school year. After some discussion the meeting adjourned. The next board meeting will be held on July 21, 2014.
