Senator Sam Cann, Senator Doug Facemire and Delegate Dave Walker brought good news and greatly needed funding to Clay County on Wednesday.
Delegate Dave Walker announced funding for Project Lifesaver in the amount of $7,000.00. This money will put a Project Lifesaver tracking device in each of the three county volunteer fire department buildings. Emergency Service Director Greg Sizemore will train each department on how to use the equipment. Walker also delivered $5200.00 in funding to the Big Otter Fire Department that will be used to purchase a piece of equipment to test the fire hose at the station. Another $1,000.00 in grant money was allocated to the Big Otter Community Center for upgrades and repairs.
Senator Facemire was pleased to deliver grants for several projects throughout the county. $1000 was awarded to the Big Otter Fire Department to build an addition to the fire hall. $1,500.00 will be used for a playground in Clay. $2500.00 was given to make improvements to the Howard Knotts building at Clay County Park at Maysel. The Clay 4-H youth received $1500.00 in grant money. Clay County Schools received an abundance of funding, receiving $12,000.00 for the upgrades at Bradley Field, $2000 for new baseball equipment and $6491.00 for football equipment.
Senator Cann was proud to award an additional $15,000.00 for the sod project at Bradley Field. Also presented by Senator Cann was a grant for $2700.00 for the purchase a stairchair for the Clay County Ambulance Service to use as well as a $12,000.00 grant for a new copy machine in the courthouse.
All three elected representatives, Delegate Walker, Senator Cann and Senator Facemire, spoke of their admiration for the people of Clay County and expressed their dedication in aiding our county in whatever way possible. In times of a hard felt budget crisis, the additional funding fought for by our government couldn’t come at a better time.
