The West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance (WVDVA) today announced department representatives, including a Veterans Service Officer from the Summersville Field Office and a Veterans Social Worker, will host regularly scheduled visits to locations in Braxton, Clay, Nicholas, and Webster Counties. These representatives will work from various locations on designated days each month in an effort to provide veterans with more convenient access to the WVDVA.
“With mobile offices, we have the ability to more easily assist veterans in all regions of our state,” Cabinet Secretary Rick Thompson said. “Through these visits, we can connect veterans with a variety of programs and services to address their needs. My goal is to make sure veterans in every corner of the state have the opportunity to receive our help.”
Veterans Service Officers provide guidance to veterans who wish to file for federal or state benefits such as a federal VA pension or service-connected disability. Widow’s pensions and VA home loans are among other potential benefits. Veterans Social Workers connect individuals with resources in such areas as education, finances, housing, employment, counseling and more.
Beginning immediately, the regularly scheduled visits will take place at the following locations. Sessions are conducted on a first come, first serve basis, but calling ahead of time is still encouraged. For more information call 304-872-0829.
