Local foods buyer-grower exhibition, October 23d, 1:30-5:00 PM at the Big Sandy Conference Center located in Huntington. The event is intended to serve as a mixer for interested buyers and sellers of locally produced farm products. Organizers are currently seeking both buyers and growers from the region (including southern WV, the Kanawha Valley and northern adjoining counties) to participate. The Friends and Family of Michelle Belt will be hosting a benefit Sing on October 12 from 2 till 5 at the Clay County High School Auditorium. Most of you will remember Michelle from her many years of employment at Dr. James Office. Her husband is Keith Belt of Dog Run. Singing at the benefit will be The Representatives Quartet, Mt State Baptist Youth Choir & Jason Belt. All proceeds will go to Michelle Belt who is currently battling Stage 4 Breast Cancer. Clay County Board of Education now accepting applications for Substitute Custodian. Applications may be picked up at the Board of Education office between the hours of 8 am and 3 pm. Sam Samples Cemetery at Procious is still in need of donations as there has been little response after several weeks of advertising. Those of us with relatives and loved ones in the cemetery have a collective responsibility to maintain grounds including mowing and weed eating, tree trimming, etc. There are a faithful few who send donations but this is not sufficient to cover maintenance. GED TESTING The GED test is FREE to anyone. However, candidates must first pass an OPT Practice Test and obtain a test ticket prior to taking the official GED test. You may contact the SPOKES/Adult Basic Education Instructor, Lisa Hamrick, at the Valley Fork Center located at Wallback at 587-1191 for additional information about GED classes or to schedule a time to take the practice test and to get your test ticket. All 2002 Series GED Test scores for partial test completers will expire on December 31, 2013. This means that, if you are a GED candidate who has taken the test anytime since 2002 but has not passed all five parts of the test, you will need to complete your testing by December 31, 2013 or start all over again in 2014 with the new GED test.
If you are a foreign veteran interested in helping making the community we live in a better place, then the VFW is the organization that you are looking for. The VFW is now in need of the younger generation of combat veterans to start taking the reins of the organization.
