Speech, Language/Developmental, Hearing & Vision Sweep Screening In Clay County Schools 2014 During the month of Sept. Clay County Schools will be conducting speech,language/developmental, hearing and vision sweep screenings on all students entering WV schools for the first time and all who have not completed a Health Check in kindergarten and preschool. Screenings will be conducted by Clay County School and RESA personnel. If you have questions or do not want your child to participate please call your school principal. Sept.15 Big Otter Elem. Sept16 Lizemore and H E White Elem. Sept 17,18,19 Clay Elem.

 

Salisbury Reunion The families of Andrew Jackson, Ben and Barbara Salisbury invite you to attend the 2014 reunion, Saturday September 13, at Pleasant Dale Church, Dog Run in Clay County, for fellowship and singing. Blueknob Church is holding a homecoming on Sunday, September 7. The church will be celebrating over 100 years of serving the community. Please join the congregation for a celebration – bring a covered dish, a lawn chair, family and friends for an enjoyable day of gospel hymns from local talents. Services begin at 10:00 am and the celebration will continue throughout the afternoon.

 

First Aid and CPR Class is being held on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 6:00pm at the Clay Ambulance Service.

Elk Conservation District Accepting Applications for Nicholas County Solid Waste Authority The Elk Conservation District is accepting applications for an appointment to the Nicholas County Solid Waste Authority. Any interested party should submit a letter of application to the district at 740 Airport Rd., Sutton, WV 26601. All letters should include why you want to serve, why you are qualified to do so, and a list of such qualifications. These letters must be received in the ECD office no later than Friday, September 5, 2014 at 4 pm. Interviews will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2014. Individuals selected for interview will be contacted on Monday, September 8, 2014 to schedule their interview time. The annual alumni gathering of all Clay County High School graduates will be held at the Clay County High School cafeteria on Saturday, September 20, 2014, from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm in conjunction with the Golden Delicious Apple Festival (Sept 19,20,21). All graduates are asked to help spread the word by telephone, internet, facebook, etc. Please consider donating on items for the silent auction. Dinner will be served at 6:00pm. The dinner is sponsored by the Clay County Bank. Cost of the event per person is by donation. All proceeds go to the Alumni Scholarship Fund. If you are a graduate or have ever attended Clay County High School, please plan to attend and bring your spouse or friend. See you there! This event is sponsored by the Clay/ Widen Alumni Association. Clay County Quilt Group is looking for new members. We meet the 2nd Saturday of every month in the basement of the library between 10:00 and 12:00.  The first hour will be spent hand quilting a quilt that is already in the frame.  The second hour will be devoted to piecing and sewing a new quilt block.  Not interested in both, you choose which you want to do.  We are a laid back group whose main focus is to have fun doing what we love to do.  Come and join our group and enjoy the fellowship of other quilters. Volunteers Needed: Walking Miracles is looking for volunteers who have a passion to help families whose children have cancer. We are looking for caregivers, friends and cancer survivors. Whether or not you took care of someone, were a friend, or had cancer when you were a child, as an adolescent or as an adult we need your help.
