It was 8th grade week for the CCMS basketball teams as some of their best players were immortalized with balloons and gifts. The CCMS boys have eleven 8th graders who will move on to the Panther team after this season. The Mustangs had two games this past week against the always tough South Harrison and Summersville teams and they were doozies.
The Mustangs held class on basketball against South Harrison, beating them 49-25. The Mustangs then hit the courts against Summersville and came out like the Celtics, giving the Bears all they wanted on defense and offense. By the time Summersville picked their jaws off the floor, the Mustangs were in the lead at the half. This had all the workings of a great game as both teams came out after some much needed R and R and putting some new plays on the clipboard and gave the fans what they paid for. In the end however, it was the Bears over the Mustangs 31-25. Fouls will definitely cause a team grief especially when the other team can draw a bead from the cheat line. The Mustangs will be back in action at home against Braxton on Wednesday.
The Lady Mustangs had four games this past week and got in some good playing time. The team said farewell to six 8th graders who will also move up to high school level play when the season is over. First up was South Harrison, and the Lady Mustangs had to break some of the rust from the long layoff and get points on the board. After shaking off the dust, the Lady Mustangs got their game on after the half and sent South Harrison packing winning by 47-14. Next up was Braxton and out came the voodoo dolls for the rest of the week. Whoever was punching the needles into the dolls over did it as the Lady Knights rolled over the Lady Mustangs 31-17. The bleeding continued in the games against Summersville and Oak Hill as the Band Aid didn’t hold. The Lady Bears beat the Lady Mustangs 31-18, and the final with Oak Hill was Lady Mustangs 11, Oak Hill 31.
This is not to say that the Lady Mustangs didn’t give the courts the heat, but they just couldn’t get the balls to grease the net. With any luck at all, the season will get back to normal for both CCMS teams this week and games will once again get in the win bracket. With just a few games in the season left, come out and catch a game.
