Clay County Schools hosted the 2022-23 Spelling Bee on Nov. 4, 2022.  Third through fifth grade students from our four elementary schools were eligible to compete.  Each school brought a team of five competitors who were highly prepared for the bee.

Our judges for the competition were Dr. Michelle Samples, Mr. Jerry Linkinoggor, and Mrs. Lisa Arnold.  They have been judging this competition for the past six years.

The competition lasted 13 rounds.  At the conclusion of the bee, Brycelyn May was awarded the first place trophy. Brycelyn is a 5th grade student at Clay Elementary School. The other students who finished in the Top 5 were as follows:

2nd place: Nevaeh Fulks from Big Otter Elementary

3rd place: Logan Morton from Lizemore Elementary

4th place: Gunnar Dobbins from Big Otter Elementary

5th place: Colton Hersman from Clay Elementary

There were a total of 20 students competing.  Congratulations to all of them, and their teachers and parents.  They had to earn a spot on the school team and then continue to prepare for weeks leading up to the competition.  Congratulations again to our Spelling Bee Champion, Brycelyn May.  We are all immensely proud of you!
