U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV), Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, celebrated the Senate passage of his bipartisan resolution to designate June 2024 as Great Outdoors Month and recognize the economic growth, positive health outcomes and better quality of life provided by outdoor recreation. This bipartisan resolution also highlights the importance of ensuring access to outdoor recreation for all West Virginians and Americans for generations to come.
“Like so many of my fellow West Virginians, I enjoy fishing, hunting and exploring all that makes our great state Wild and Wonderful. I’m proud the Senate passed our bipartisan resolution to celebrate the great outdoors and all the ways it enhances our lives and communities,” said Chairman Manchin. “As Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, I will continue working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to bolster outdoor recreation opportunities and ensure our public lands are protected for generations to come.”
Senator Manchin has been a leader on legislation to increase outdoor recreational opportunities nationwide and to steward our public lands and National Parks. This includes shepherding the Great American Outdoors Act and the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act through the Senate. In this Congress, Senator Manchin introduced the bipartisan American’s Outdoor Recreation Act of 2023 to improve outdoor recreation and spur economic growth in rural communities.
