The Owen and Friends: Race To Educate Autism Awareness is hosting their second annual 5k walk/run race in Clay County.

The race will be held at Clay County High School at 1 Panther Drive, Clay, WV 25043, on April 29. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the race will start promptly at 10 a.m.. The race will start at the Clay County High School and go to the Clay County Courthouse and back.

Before the race there will be a table full of raffles to bid on. The cost of the tickets will be one ticket for $1 or six tickets for $5. You can pre-register before April 14 for $20 and receive a T-shirt with your registration fees. If you come the day of the race, you will pay the $20 but will not receive the T-shirt. You can also buy the T-shirt for $10 without participating.

The race catagories are as follows: runners: 13-30, 31-50, 50+; walkers: all ages.

Last year the race raised over $1,300, and organizers want to raise even more this year. The money this year will be used to build sensory stations for every Clay County school. Organizers want to build a station with storage to place sensory items in, to keep in a central location in the school, to help with organization of items and make easy access to the items. Items such as ear muffs, sensory weighted lap buddies, sensory hand held items, etc. They want every child, with not just autism, but maybe a sensory issue,to be able to participate in the school activities as efficiently as other students. Every school will receive the station personalized with their school colors and mascot and the specified sensory items. Please come out and help our cause.

There is a Facebook page dedicated to Owen and Friends Operation: Educate Autism Awareness. There is a link to the event on that page. You can pay through the following venues: mail registration fees and registration form to Regina Potasnik, 239 Ivybrook Road, Clay WV 25043, phone 304-539-9350; stop at Clay County Bank and pay your fees under Regina Potasnik Autism Race account; or pay through Paypal at https://www.paypal.me/potasnik.
