This Canadian is best known as a television star whose premier series ran on NBC for 14 years. In 1940, he replaced Charles Jennings (Peter Jennings father) as the chief news broadcaster for the CBC. His #1 single in 1964, made him only the second Canadian to have a #1 single in the US.
