The season for Lady Panther basketball has been under way for about five games now with only one loss early in the season.  It is obvious that the Lady Panthers are getting better each week as the season rolls on. The Ladies are out to prove that they are still a basketball machine even after losing some of their powerhouse players from last year.  On Tuesday evening, the Lady Bulldogs of Doddridge County blew into town hoping to oust the Lady Panthers on their home court.  The Lady Panthers outscored and completely dominated the Lady Bulldogs in one of the best played games of the season thus far.  The Lady Panthers seemed to do no wrong – with all the ladies firing on all cylinders, five of the Lady Panthers fired double digits in the net.  Marissa Williams was top gun on the net this night bucketing 15 points followed by Makayla Horrocks with 12.  The Lady Bulldogs seemed lost on how to handle the full court pressure dished out by the Lady Panthers.  It was a well-oiled gamed played by the Lady Panthers who have appeared to have worked out the kinks in their armor.  The final score was Lady Panthers 74, Lady Bulldogs 31.  The Lady Panthers will be on the road this week traveling to South Harrison and then will be back for a five game home stretch.
Tuesday night was a special night in addition to the Lady Panther domination. As the Lady Panthers and fans of CCHS basketball watched,  the #23 Lady Panther jersey was retired into the history books.  As most readers know, the jersey was worn by McKinzee Barker, a CCHS basketball player who has dedicated her life to the sport of basketball and is now playing at Monmouth college in New Jersey, a Division I school.  At the collegiate level, she continues to shine as one of the best, earning the Rookie of the Week award two separate weeks so far this season for playing outstanding basketball.  CCHS and Clay County is very proud to have been a stepping off point for McKinzee and will always support her in her pursuit of being the best.  CCHS Basketball is alive and well; get out and enjoy a game.
