Martha Kay Deems has been recognized as Citizen of the Month for Clay. She is the daughter of the late Henry Clay & Gladys’s Boggs of Hallsburg.
You often see her walking hand in hand with her spouse Ell Deems down the sidewalks of Main Street; it’s such a precious sight to see. Martha loves our little town and seems to be on a mission to help keep it beautiful. She voluntarily does this out of the goodness of her heart.
Martha says she picks up all the pine cones on the walk ways to keep the elderly from falling on them and to keep the children from putting them in their mouths in case there is bug spray on them.
While walking she will see the litter and sticks in the way and she can’t resist to keep Clay safe and clean. She said with a giggle “Ell holds my hand to keep me from straying off for another pine cone or rock in the way.”
When she was told she was picked for Citizen of the Month she was humbled and honored at the same time. She said, “I don’t do anything but clean, anyone can do that.” ~ Then she smiled.
We are so thankful to have Martha Kay as part of our community. She is genuinely deserving of this award and she truly loves Clay County.
