Clay County High School of West Virginia started Marissa’s Closet in memory of Marissa Tackett, a former student at CCHS on September 14, 2015. Marissa was a wonderful example to CCHS students and faculty, showing how to stay positive, care for others, and have strength in very difficult times. Unfortunately, Marissa lost her battle to cancer in April of 2015. CCHS is continuing her legacy of caring and compassion by starting Marissa’s Closet. Marissa’s Closet will issue food boxes and backpacks filled with food to students on a weekly basis.
This is not the first time CCHS has distributed food and supplies to students. Caring for each other and helping those in need is a true staple in Clay County. Ranked 54th out on 55 counties of West Virginia in terms of socioeconomic status, Clay County students face considerable challenges. Marisa’s Closet will help to meet the basic needs for our students so that they can focus on their academic success.
