Remembering Terri King

On January 5, 2022, the Clay Afterschool Program lost an important person. Terri King, longtime afterschool dance instructor, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.

Terri faced the challenge of cancer with the same optimism and passion that guided her work with students.  She was an advocate for the arts and worked during the afterschool program to ensure many students experienced the joy of self-expression through dance.  Terri kept students at the heart of everything she planned, and she was always thinking ahead, creating new opportunities for students to showcase their skills.

Students looked forward to seeing Terri at their school each evening and delighted in learning and rehearsing acts for winter and spring dance programs.  Terri valued the students’ input in planning programs, and she made sure every student had a costume and a part.  The poise and self-confidence students developed through the dance performances are attributes that will benefit them their entire lives.

Terri is proof of the difference parents and community members can make in the lives of students, and the students of the Clay Afterschool Program benefited from her energy and dedication.  She will be greatly missed by staff, students, and the community.
