Gracey Champ was unbeatable in the back field.

By Allen Hamrick

The Lady Panther Volleyball team travelled to Charleston to take on Charleston Catholic and Capitol on Thursday evening for their opening season first matchups.  Charleston Catholic was up first in the tri match, and it was a rough outing for the Lady Panthers as nothing seemed to go their way.  Going up against Charleston Catholic, the Lady Panthers looked like they were going to bring their game to the net and break some bad eggs in the basket, but mistakes will kill a volleyball team faster that a bird on a transformer.  The Ladies played well in the first game, but just couldn’t zero in on the luck bucket.  The second game, however, was all Lady Panthers as they pounded their way into a win with good digs and kill shots.  They took the second game 25-11.  As in any sport, though, you win and you lose, and unfortunately that was it for the Lady Panthers as their head of steam ran out of coal in the third game and they lost the set 1-2.

Rylee Burkhamer was crankin’ heat.

With that loss, the Lady Panthers regrouped for a round of games against Capitol.  If you were there, every game was a nail bitin’ edge of your seat game.  The Lady Panthers played some great games down to the wire, but in the end lost the set…23-25, 25-17, and a barn burner 28-30.  The Lady Panthers are starting to get their game on for the rest of the season.  They have always been tough to beat, and the season is early.  The Lady Panthers were still on the road in a quad match against Ravenswood, Buffalo, and South Harrison on Saturday.  When the smoke cleared, the Lady Panthers pulled out a win against South Harrison but could not overcome the other two teams.  The Lady Panthers have the talent to sweep the floor with anybody they play but have to get rid of the mistakes.  The Lady Panthers will be back at home against Braxton on Tuesday and Calhoun on September 5th.  Come out and support the Lady Panthers.
