Lady Panthers are back in the winner’s circle

By Allen Hamrick

The Lady Panthers finally got to put on the winner’s wreath at Calhoun just after Christmas as they went hoop to hoop with the Lady Red Devils and put out their pitchfork fire.  The Lady Panthers came out firing, not missing the hoop and finding plenty of net time.  Olivia Witt and Ilyauna Evans were adding salt to the Lady Red Devils wounds in the 1st period by scoring a combined 13 points.  The Lady Red Devils couldn’t muster much holiday cheer as their offense struggled to grease the net scoring just nine in the 1st.   Thank goodness for free throws, 12 of the Lady Panthers 1st half 28 points came from the cheat line.  The Lady Red Devils were having a hard time keeping their fouls under control.  By the half, the Lady Panthers had a full sail and were in full throttle taking this game to the open seas with the score at 28-15.  The Lady Red Devils tried a comeback in the 3rd but just couldn’t get beyond bucket for bucket with the Lady Panthers.  By the end, it was the Lady Panthers over the lady Red Devils 56-35.  Top shot in the game was Ilyauna Evans with 29 points.

The Lady Eagles of Braxton were up next and the bulbs blew on the shooting percentage for the Lady Panthers. They struggled to wipe any icing on the rim until the 4th period, hitting for double digits with 12 points.  The Lady Panthers had a hard time reliving the glory shots they had in the previous game at Calhoun.  When the smoke cleared, it was the Lady Eagles over the Lady Panthers 46-34.  Top shot once again was Ilyauna Evans with 14 points.  Hopefully, the Lady Panthers will have worked out the bugs and will be ready to burn some hoops at their next game.  They will be in action on Tuesday night at home against Midland Trail and at home again with Doddridge on Friday night.  Come out and catch some basketball.
