From 1896 until 1923, church services were held in Rosella No. 3, a one-room school house near the site where the former Fola post office was located, which had been established in 1913. The worshipers were members of the Sycamore Baptist Church. At a meeting on Friday, August 22, 1922, the group agreed to organize the Fola Missionary Baptist Church and construct a building on the plot then occupied by the school.
The organizational meeting was held in the school house on September 21, 1922. The following charter members, in possession of their letters from the Sycamore Baptist Church, were: John Legg, Curtis Legg, Earl Keith, Jesse Fitzwater, J. W. (Bill) Fitzwater, Ray Gray, Jacob Keith, W. C. (Coody) Legg, Elmer Legg, H. L. (Lock) Keith, Richard Gibson, Guy Keith, Basil Jones, Icy Legg, Hattie Legg, Alchie Gibson and C. V. Osborne. Reverend L. T. Jones was called as the first pastor.
Current Pastor, the Reverend Daniel Tanner, and the entire congregation wish to invite the public to attend their 100-year Anniversary service on Sunday, September 18, at 10 a.m. Special music will be provided by Living for Him, with dinner following the morning service.
Visitors to the Clay County Golden Delicious Festival next week can also visit us at the Zul’s Frozen Lemonade Stand located at the Courthouse square (September 15 – 17).
