With October being fire prevention month, trying to raise awareness to people in the community is an important matter for the volunteer firemen at Lizemore Volunteer Fire Department as well as the rest of the firemen across the country.
Too many times, in an unfortunate event when someone’s house catches fire, people don’t know what to do. Even when your adrenaline is rushing in that kind of situation, if you are prepared and know what to do it those certain situations, you will be able to have a better preparedness. Have an evacuation plan, have a meeting place, know not to open a door and try to go out if the door feels hot; these things are something you should know and teach your families so they can be prepared as well.
The firemen with LVFD are trying to make sure that the children at Lizemore Elementary School know what to do if they ever found themselves in a fire. Jeremy Beal, volunteer fireman, dressed up in full gear to show the students that if they find themselves in a fire situation, that even though he looks scary, he isn’t, he is there to help and save you if needed.
The students enjoyed themselves learning about fire prevention and what to do in a fire and even got to race the firemen in rolling up the water hoses. Each student got a fire alarm to put in their home to help better protect from fires.
LVFD also went to HE White Elementary School, which is also in their run area, to teach the children there about fire prevention as well. If you have questions or want to learn more about fire prevention, you may ask any of your local volunteer firemen and they will be glad to help you and teach you.
