The Clay County Commission met on June 24 for the last time in the fiscal year. With all three commissioners present, only a handful of people were in attendance for the public meeting. The meeting began with the customary payment of bills and purchase orders followed by the approval of minutes, erroneous assessments, refunds of erroneous assessments and real estate divisions.
Next on the agenda was the payment of a claim filed by Russell Shamblin in the amount of $1500.00. Last year stray dogs in the Wallback area killed one cattle that belonged to Shamblin. The request for reimbursement was originally tabled by the county commission until now, when all agreed to pay the $1500.00 from the county’s dog fund.
The probating of the following last wills and testaments were approved: Hazel Mathews Hanna, Everett Eagle, Sr., and Melba Butcher. Darlene Tanner was appointed administratrix DBN of the estate of Darrell Adkins. The request of waiver of final settlement for the estate of Daniel Baird was approved as well as the final settlement report for the estate of Carolyn Drake.
Several random agenda items were approved next. The Clay County Bank was designated as the depository of county funds for the fiscal year of 2015-2016 and a bond in the amount of $4,500,000.00 was approved. At the request of Circuit Clerk Mike Asbury, Shyrle Samples was hired as a part time employee at the rate of $8.00 per hour with no benefits. Christy Cliver was hired as a part time, as needed EMT-B for Clay Ambulance Service at the rate of $9 per hour.
Several board re-appointments followed, including David Pierson, Jr. as a citizen representative to the Regional Intergovernmental Council for a term expiring July 1, 2020, Joyce McLaughlin as a member of the Clay County Board of Health for a term expiring July 1, 2020, Stephanie Scott as a member of the Clay County Library Board for a term expiring June 20, 2020, Barry Curry and Ordy Holcomb as members of the Clay County Parks and Recreation Board for a term expiring July 1, 2018, Brian Moore as an at-large member of the Clay County Parks and Recreation Board for a term expiring July 1, 2018, Roberta Faile and Roger Hanshaw as members of the Clay County Business Development Authority for terms ending June 30, 2018 and finally Kenneth Tanner as a member of the Clay County Sheriff’s Civil Service Commission for a term ending June 1, 2019.
The meeting adjourned after a busy twenty minutes of business discussion. The group will meet again on Wednesday, July 8 at 10:00 am.
