The WVU Extension office, Be Healthy team members Ami Cook and Mike Shamblin, and local project managers and volunteers have completed Clay County’s natural playground and splash pad located at the old Telford’s lot on Main Street.
This playground was designed to incorporate flowers, trees, grass, and soil to encourage kids to explore and get more comfortable with their environment. The design, which was done by Peter Butler, features multiple obstacles, a climbing wall, slide, and an above ground tunnel decorated with natural flowers and other natural elements.
Felicia Woods, Daniel Coleman, Angela Brown, and Melanie Sangle volunteered to assist in the wall’s assembly. Shane Morton, owner of Morton Excavating, generously donated his time and skills to help excavate the playground and splash pad area. Many other Clay County residents came out to support the efforts to make Clay fun for the little ones. Thank you to all who donated time and efforts in this project.
The soft opening was held in time for the July 4 weekend, but their Grand Opening is set for July 21 from 12 to 2 p.m. with free snacks and fun. The grand opening is sponsored by the WVU Clay County Extension Office, a Be Healthy grant, the Clay FRN, Clay Health Department, the Town of Clay, and the Clay Senior Center.
Hours of regular operation are every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
