Clay County BOE approves new middle school principal hire

The Clay County Board of Education met on Monday, May 22, at the administrative office for a regularly scheduled meeting. Upon approval of the agenda, minutes from the previous meeting were approved. A preliminary budget for the 2017-2018 school year was approved.

A motion made to approve the memorandum of agreement with WVU Extension Office in the amount of $18,473.50 for the 2017-2018 school year, was approved. A motion was approved for funding for the Clay County Library in the amount of $11,337.50 for the 2017-2018 school year. A motion was approved for an annual contract with the Clay County Health Department in the amount of $5,000 for the 2017-2018 school year.

The board approved a slate of hires, transfers and resignations including the hiring of Leslie Goe as principal at Clay County Middle School.

Additionally, the board approved the resignation of Shawn Krajeski as head boys’ basketball coach at Clay County Middle School, effective immediately. A motion was approved for the resignation of Greg Knopp as head football coach at Clay Middle School, effective immediately. A motion was approved for the resignation of Anissa Collins as head volleyball coach at Clay County Middle School, effective immediately. A motion was approved for the resignation of Sabrina Corwell as the assistant flag corps coach at Clay County High School. A motion was approved for the revised graduation requirement policy (IHE-A) for Clay County High School.

A motion was approved for the employment of the following as summer custodians to clean and prep all school buildings for the opening of school on August 14: Sammy Reed, 40 days; Clara Deyton, 40 days; Rachel Thorne, 20 days; Jesse Runion, 20 days;  Debbie Gould, 40 days; Kenneth Smith, 40 days; Rebecca Elmore, 20 days; Kay Miller, 20 days (sub); Lucy Rhodes, 20 days (sub).

A motion for the transfer of Jimmie Holcomb from bus no. 63 to bus no. 62, was approved. A motion for the transfer of Edna King from kindergarten to itinerant autism mentor with placement at Clay County Middle School, was approved. A motion was made for the transfer of Brandi McKinney from kindergarten teacher at Big Otter Elementary School to third grade teacher at Big Otter Elementary school, was approved. A motion was approved for the classroom teacher reassignment of Jamie McDonough from PE resource teacher to music resource teacher at Clay Elementary School.

A motion was made for the employment/transfer of Michelle Strimel as multiple disabilities resource teacher at Clay Elementary School, which was approved. A motion was approved for the employment/transfer of Angela King as kindergarten teacher at Clay Elementary School. A motion was approved for the employment/transfer of Lynn Brogan as kindergarten teacher at Clay Elementary School. A motion was approved for the transfer of Mistie Legg from teacher at Clay County High School to Title I teacher at Clay Elementary School. A motion was approved for the employment of Luella Dancy as math teacher at Clay County High School.

A motion was approved for the out of state, overnight trip for the Clay County High School TSA and the Clay County Middle School TSA students and chaperones to attend the 2017 National TSA Leadership Conference held in Orlando, FL, June 19-June 25 and expenses in the amount of $24,657.60.
