The Clay County Elementary Spelling Bee was held on Dec. 6 at Clay County High School. Five students from each of our four elementary schools came ready to compete for the first place trophy and to claim the school trophy, on which the winner’s name will be placed forever.
The students were well prepared. They spelled 109 words in 15 rounds. The bee ended with the winner, Bryton Champ from Big Otter Elementary, spelling the championship word – carcasses.
The top five finishers were: 5th place- Simon Holcomb from Lizemore Elementary, 4th place- Jaylyn Holcomb from Lizemore Elementary, 3rd place- Cara Jennings from Big Otter Elementary, 2nd place- Justin Nida from H.E. White Elementary, and 1st place- Bryton Champ from Big Otter Elementary.
Congratulations to all the competitors. They all had to compete at their schools to earn the right to compete on the county level. Thank you to teachers, parents and students for working so hard and doing your best to represent your schools. Everyone did a wonderful job!
