Clay County Schools have some awesome students. Some of those awesome students are part of the FFA Chapter at Clay County High School. In July, the CCHS FFA Chapter attended the State Convention held at Cedar Lakes in Ripley, WV. The land team won 1st in the state. They received two separate awards, one in land judging and one in home-site. The members of the land team who placed 1st are Trevor Arms, Jeremy Hayes, Clarissa Kieffer and Joel Walker. Jeremy Hayes also placed 3rd in the state individual in land judging. Placing 1st qualifies the land team to go to Oklahoma City, OK in the spring for National Convention. For land judging, some of the things the team had to do were go out in a field to contest four holes. They had to find the surface texture, the depth of the soil, the erosion of the soil, and the permeability. The only tools they had were a clipboard and a knife. The home site competition is based off of the answers from the land judging card. FFA President, Bryan Burkhammer was a finalist in the Job Interview contest. Congratulations to the FFA Chapter in all of their accomplishments!
