Last week, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, announced resources from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support ongoing construction efforts at Clendenin Elementary School following severe floods in June of 2016.

“The 2016 floods took a devastating toll on communities across West Virginia, with Clendenin hit especially hard. As we continue to rebuild stronger, the resiliency of residents and communities remains front and center, as this funding will support ongoing efforts to complete the new Clendenin Elementary School,” Senator Capito said. “I was proud to work with our state’s partners at FEMA to secure this funding, through consultation with local leaders in Clendenin, in order to help ensure our students have a safe place to learn now and for generations to come.”

Individual award details listed below:

$12,600,162.41 in FEMA funding to the State of West Virginia School Building Authority (Charleston, W.Va.) – Funding will be used to help rebuild Clendenin Elementary School after it was severely damaged by severe floods in June 2016 under authority of Section 428 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
