With the help of a student volunteer, Clay County 911 Director Denise Holcomb talks with CAP students at Clay Elementary about calling 9-1-1 in an emergency.

On the night of November 29, Clay Elementary students participating in the Clay Afterschool Program (CAP) had a special guest: Ms. Denise Holcomb, the 911 Director for Clay County. Ms. Holcomb met with students and discussed when it is appropriate to call 9-1-1. With the help of a student volunteer, Ms. Holcomb demonstrated an emergency situation for students, the protocol for calling 9-1-1, and all the actions that occur once a 9-1-1 operator is contacted.

Lizemore Volunteer Fireman Heath Cliver shows Kindergarten and First Grade students at Lizemore Elementary one of the department’s fire trucks and the types of gear it carries.

The following night, on November 30, CAP students at Lizemore Elementary were visited by Fire Chief Justin Elliott and members of the Lizemore Volunteer Fire Department. Chief Elliott brought a smoke detector in for students to see and discussed the importance of everyone having a smoke detector in their home. Members of his department showed students firefighter gear and took students outside to see two fire trucks.

Students at both Clay Elementary and Lizemore Elementary enjoyed the guest speakers and appreciated Ms. Holcomb and Chief Elliott and his firefighters for taking time to visit them during the Clay Afterschool Program.
