The Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching & Leadership was the idea of Golden Apple founder Martin J. (Mike) Koldyke, who felt that excellent teachers did not receive adequate recognition for their contributions to building a stronger, better-educated society.

Every year since 1986, Golden Apple has chosen outstanding teachers to receive the prestigious Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching. In 2014, Golden Apple began honoring one or more exemplary school leaders each year with the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Leadership in honor of Stanley C. Golder.

Clay County is blessed to have one of this year’s recipients in its school system. Mrs. Brittany Dolly was awarded the AFF-WV apple award for outstanding union leadership in early
February 2019. Brittany says she was shocked and truly humbled to be the recipient of the award.

“Being recognized by my union brothers and sisters is such an honor because there are so many deserving individuals in the AFT-WV who work so hard,” said Brittany.  Throughout her time working with the AFT, she has met many individuals who she says is now some of her closest friends.  She feels lucky and blessed to be a part of this organization.
