By: Betty Lee

Santa Claus came to town this past weekend in Clay County, and a Clay County Christmas organized a wonderful celebration over the last weekend. The celebration was Saturday, Dec. 14, and wrapped up with a grand parade.

There was plenty to do for everyone, with Santa handing out gifts, cupcake decorating with the Grinch, games provided by Clay Lumber, Christmas caroling by Fairview Baptist Church, and craft vendors set up in the courthouse and courthouse square.

Donations of non-perishable food items were accepted as well to stock the Clay County High School’s food pantry.  Hot chocolate and cookies were provided by the Clay County Courthouse for everyone to enjoy.

CJ’s BBQ set up in the old IGA parking lot offering several delicious food items, with all proceeds going to Katie Price, a Clay County High School freshman bravely fighting cancer.

The grand parade came through town, wrapping up the evening at 8 p.m. with several local fire departments, businesses, and individuals participating. Trophies were given to the winning business and residents competing in the decorating contest, as well.
