2021 Hugh Boggs Math Field Day Winners

Big Otter Braves take home the top honors!

On December 9, top math students in third, fourth and fifth grades from Big Otter Elementary, Clay Elementary, H.E. White Elementary and Lizemore Elementary met at the Clay High School Auditorium to compete for prestigious awards in the annual Hugh Boggs Math Field Day. Each year, students compete within their schools to earn the right to represent at the competition to show who is best at answering oral computation questions as well as who is best with the written math questions.  

Mr. Hugh Boggs was an educator for Clay County Schools for a great many years and felt that math skills were very important to the success of all students. His dedication to education and to mathematics is honored each year as the best and brightest math students from grades three through five meet to carry on his legacy and prove that math can be fun as well as challenging. 

Third grade oral competition awards were: 1st place – Silas Starcher, Big Otter; 2nd place – Silas Corwell, Clay; 3rd place – Mason Conley, H.E. White; 4th place – Jakeub Bird, Lizemore. 

Third grade written competition awards were: 1st place –Raiden Gould, H.E. White; 2nd place – Sophia Boggs, Big Otter, 3rd place – Sadie Bird, Clay; and 4th place – Trystan Burdette, Lizemore. 

Fourth grade oral competition awards were: 1st place – Jackson Cantrell, Big Otter; 2nd place – William Fields, Clay; 3rd place – Mason Hall, H.E. White; and 4th place – Marissa Atha, Lizemore.

 Fourth grade written competition awards were: 1st place – Emma Rowan, H.E. White; 2nd place Chloe Campbell, Big Otter; 3rd place Layla Stewart, Lizemore; and 4th place – Emma McCallister, Clay. 

Fifth grade oral competition awards were: 1st place – Alexander Holcomb, Lizemore; 2nd place – Adam Canfield, Clay; 3rd place Levi Rogers, Big Otter; and 4th place – Rylan Gould, H.E. White. 

Fifth grade written competition awards were: 1st place – Alexander Jennings, Big Otter, 2nd place – Autumn Rapp, Clay; 3rd place – Briar Dorsey, Lizemore; and 4th place – Jeremiah Smith, H.E. White. 

There is also a traveling trophy that goes home with the school with the most students placing at the top. This year, Big Otter Elementary edged out the competition to earn the right to house the Hugh Boggs Math Field Day trophy for the year. Congratulations to these boys and girls for all of their study and dedication. You are great representatives of both your school and Clay County Schools as a whole.
