On Thursday, October 7th, the best mathematics students from all four Clay County Elementary Schools gathered at Clay County High School for the annual Hugh Boggs Math Field Day Competition. The competition is named after former school teacher and one-time Principal of Valley Fork Elementary School, the late Hugh Boggs.
As the competition unfolded, students put their own minds to the task of answering an array of challenging questions in both written and oral form. The oral competition resembled a typical television quiz show where contestants buzz in quickly to provide the correct answer. The written competition took place in a more quiet setting and the questions were very challenging to say the least! The winners were as follows:

Oral Test Fourth Grade: First Place, Monny Holcomb of Lizemore Elementary; Second place, Matt Shelton of Clay Elementary; Third place, Dillon Moore of Big Otter Elementary; Fourth place, Matthew Yoho of H. E. White Elementary.
Oral Test Third Grade: First place, Paris Williams of Clay Elementary; Second place, Shelby Holcomb of Lizemore Elementary; Third place, Alexia Tanner of Big Otter Elementary; Fourth place, Jerimiah Leftwich of H. E. White Elementary.
Written Test Fifth Grade: First place, Curtis Drake of Clay Elementary; Second place, Zoe Davis of Big Otter Elementary; Third place, Emily Price of Lizemore Elementary; Fourth place, Richard W. Triplett, III of H. E. White Elementary.
Written Test Fourth Grade: First place, Makenna Brown of Lizemore Elementary; Second place, Curtis Litton of Clay Elementary; Third place, Aly Chinn of Big Otter Elementary; Fourth place, Hadleigh Casto of H. E. White Elementary.
Written Test Third Grade: First place, Ethan Morris of Clay Elementary; Second place, Zoey Rounsville of Big Otter Elementary; Third place, Trinatey J. Brown of H. E. White Elementary; Fourth place, Emma Vance of Lizemore Elementary.

Thanks also to Board of Education Executive Secretary Mary Holcomb for preparing the certificates and programs. Mrs. Pam Mullins, Director of Elementary Programs is acknowledged for organizing this event, and the late Hugh Boggs as well for his life-long dedication to the students of Clay County Schools.
